Intellectual Property Rights

The Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights, organized by EDEC – The Business Society in collaboration with the Department of Professional Studies, provided students with a practical understanding of how intellectual property plays a critical role in today’s innovation-driven business environment. The session was led by Ms. Akshatha M. Patel, an Intellectual Property and Technology Lawyer, who brought real-world legal insights into the classroom.
The workshop introduced students to key concepts such as trademarks, copyrights, and patents, explaining how businesses and creators protect their ideas and innovations. Through engaging case studies, including the well-known Apple Corps vs. Apple Computer dispute, participants gained clarity on the strategic and legal importance of intellectual property in brand protection and competitive advantage.
Students actively participated in discussions, bridging theoretical knowledge with real business applications. Overall, the session enhanced legal awareness, encouraged ethical decision-making, and equipped aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators with the knowledge needed to identify, value, and protect intellectual assets in academic and professional contexts.
